Course Overview

Have you always wanted to get creative but don’t know where to start or what you might like? Do you want to delve into your creative side in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere? This is the course for you! In this hands-on course you’ll try painting (in a range of different mediums), drawing, printmaking, and a variety of activities in between, mixed media, collage, and more. A relaxing, creative, and fun 8 weeks to help you find your creative voice and experiment with a wide range of materials and methods to find what best suits you.

Is this course right for me?

No prior experience assumed or necessary. High School students in year 9 and above are welcome and encouraged to join this class

Materials

All materials included, just bring your enthusiasm!

Casual attendance

Casual attendance is welcome if you wish to attend a particular session. Each week is a separate module of learning, except for printmaking in weeks 4+5 which would require a 2 week commitment. Fee is $65 per class including materials.

Course outline

Week 1.
Medium: Drawing
Focus: Observation, Line, Shape & Form- single objects

Week 2.
Medium: Drawing, Ink & Watercolour
Focus: Proportion, Depth, composition, colour and mark making- Still Life

Week 3.
Medium: Watercolour
Focus: Intro to watercolor painting techniques, colour mixing and composition.

Week 4.
Medium: Relief & Mono Printmaking- Part 1
Focus: Mark making and composition techniques for creating relief printing plates,
experimenting with monoprinting techniques.

Week 5.
Medium: Relief & Mono Printmaking- Part 2
Focus: Relief printing on etching press, experimenting with a series of finished printed outcomes
incorporating mono printing elements.

Week 6.
Medium: Drawing, Mixed Media & Collage
Focus: Self Portraits- Proportions of the face, capturing features and experimenting with different
styles of representation.

Week 7.
Medium: Acrylic Painting – Part 1
Focus: Intro to acrylic paint application & brushes, colour mixing and blending working in a
limited palette.

Week 8.
Medium: Acrylic Painting- Part 2
Focus: Composition, techniques for building a painting
